Timothy, most commonly known as Tim to his family and friends or dad to his daughter. He was a family man, still close to his mum and dad who were well into their 80’s and his sister who lived down the road. He was in his 50’s and expected to outlive his parents.
In 2025, Tim received a cancer diagnosis. It was terminal.
Less than a week later, Tim died.
After the shock had subsided, Tim’s family found his Waddle Welcome Pack and called to inform us of his death and from then on we supported the family through the claim.
The claim was straightforward and took three months in total for Tim’s daughter, the sole Trustee and beneficiary to receive £200,000.
When Tim spoke to Aimee in 2023, he had just a Life policy in place for £80,000 that was meant to cover his mortgage and leave a legacy for his daughter.
Except there wouldn’t be much left for his daughter after paying the £75,000 mortgage balance.
Tim’s well-meaning plan didn’t add up to the level of protection he intended to leave behind, especially considering the average cost of a funeral being around £5,000.*
Tim's daughter, a young adult who was financially dependent on him, would have been left with little financial cushion at a time she most needed it.
Aimee tailored a package comprising three separate policies, designed to do three different jobs; mortgage cover, family benefit and funeral cover. All with one insurer, with Tim’s medical disclosures accurately captured and recommended to be written into Trust.
After Tim received his Welcome Pack, he spoke with our Welcome Team who talked him through his policies and guided him to complete the Trust forms. Two weeks later, the Trusts were registered and returned to Tim.
For three years, Tim went on with his life, probably not thinking too much about his policies and certainly not expecting what would happen next. But, at least, he had peace of mind.
It was clear to Aimee that Tim’s priority was his daughter. He had raised her largely alone, on a modest income, while managing a mortgage and building the life he had worked hard for.
For Tim and like many of our clients, the conversation around protection was not about creating wealth, it was about making sure that his family, and specifically his daughter, wasn’t left with debt or financial hardship following his death.
Aimee recognised the shortfall in his existing cover, provided the right solution, and ensured Tim’s wishes were protected through Trusts.
When it came down to it, Tim wasn’t thinking about policies or premiums, He was thinking about his daughter. He wanted to know that, if he couldn’t be there to look after her, she’d still have the support she needed.
